| The Hornisgrinde, the highest mountain in the northern Black Forest, rises like a broad-shouldered giant over Kappelrodeck and turns back the cold winds from the East. That is where the full-bodied character wines of "Hex vom Dasenstein" thrive, the vines growing up the steep slopes of the Acher valley around Kappelrodeck. With nearly all vine plots facing south on loose, weathered granite rock soil which warms up well, they form a further basis for the powerful full-bodied red wines from Germany's most prize-winning vineyard. Nearly 80% of the vineyard area is planted with Spätburgunder, with fresh summer wines such as the Rosé, but also the Weißburgunder, Grauburgunder, Riesling, Gewürztraminer and the Scheurebe, rounding off the varieties around the Dasenstein.
The writer Kurt Tucholsky once regretted that you could not fondle wine. A strange request at first glance, but quite understandable when enjoying a glass of "Hex vom Dasenstein". For over seventy years we have been dedicated to growing and vinifying Kappelrodeck wines. By stringent pruning during the winter and by using integrated cultivation methods, our vintners, under the guidance and supervision of our cellar master Marco Köninger, ensure the quality of the future finest wines in the vineyard. Harvesting the grapes is done by hand, a weary but gentle process, with stringent sorting of the grapes. Traditional vinification and technical progress go hand in hand, both in the vineyard and the wine cellar, to ensure that each autumn is a golden one in the "Winery Hex vom Dasenstein". Each red wine is vinified in a large wooden barrel and quite a few treasures can be found in the barrique barrels.
Cellar master Marco Köninger, managing director Jürgen Decker and chairman Alois Huber are consistently looking for new finesse, based on the good and successful traditions of past years. Besides a light and refreshing summer Rivaner, this also resulted in the creation of a charming Rosé and a rich distinguished Blanc de Noir, all of which are highly popular with both young and young at heart wine lovers. An equally successful creation is the "Karat“, a velvet-smooth Spätburgunder red wine. The premium wine label from our innovative winery is called "Avantgarde“. This includes a superb Pinot Noir, a Riesling, a Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc and a Pinot Blanc, which can stand their ground anytime at an international level. The selection series "Alte Rebe" (Old Vine), which has been extremely successful for years, can be regarded as an absolute classic. These wines merit the special attention of our vintners and the cellar master, as only strict limitation of the vines, which are at least 25 years old, will result in the finest wines - always worth a temptation!
A cuvée of two Cabernet grapes with the name "ONYX“ more than proves that Hex vom Dasenstein is willing to leave the beaten path. A rich, spicy, smooth and dark red wine with Mediterranean flair, which makes wine lovers' hearts beat faster. The Hex vom Dasenstein vineyard is the first winery in Germany that has been awarded the highly coveted National Honorary Award in gold consecutively for four times, and at the same time being awarded "Best German Wine Producer" (1. place in the DLG TOP 100 list) in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007. We have certainly made German wine history! Numerous awards at national and international competitions are further proof of our high level of quality. Hex vom Dasenstein is also recommended by numerous renowed wine guides, such as Gault Millau, Busche, Deutscher Weinpreis, Feinschmecker and many others. This result is not just a moment's vision, but covers our performance during the past decade, something we are rightly proud of in Kappelrodeck. |
