| In the middle of the wine producing village of Krustetten, which is situated in the southern region of the Krems Valley, you can spot the Müller wine estate from far away. The newly constructed cellar equipped with the latest wine making technology features a tasting room at the very top. From the tasting room overlooking the rest of the village, one may enjoy a panoramic view of the Krems Valley including the monastery Göttweig, the town of Krems, and the Danube River presented in spectacular fashion.
In this idyllic village Leopold Müller and his family are creating a range of fruitful and type specific wines through a lot of devotion and dedication to perfection. Special attention is given to the Grüner Veltliner and Riesling which are grown in the most favoured regions of the Krems valley. Alongside the assortment of recognized white wines, the Müller estate is also known for its velvety-spicy red wines that have surprised many coming to the region. The constant quest for quality was the recipe for success over recent years as seven Müller wines were selected for the ‘Salon Österreichischer Wein’ (Salon of Autrian Wine – very distinct list of the best wines in Austria). Furthermore, two of their wines were awarded second place in a national listing featuring Grüner Veltliner and Riesling.
Leopold’s younger brother, Stefan, is responsible for their carefully layed out vineyards in the best regions along the Krems valley. He is cultivating the 70 ha of vineyards with dedication and expertise. The climatic impact of the Danube and the hearty clay soil over warm gravel are creating the foundatation for the optimal conditions to cultivate the vines that bring forth such flavourful varity in the grapes. Not only is Stefan responsible for the vineyards but he is also running the family’s ‘Heurigen’ where he spoils his guests with regional specialities that are complemented by their award-winning wines.
