| The OBIZ wine-estate is located in Friuli Venezia Giulia, at just 3 km from Aquileia, born a Roman colony in 181 B.C. and now Northeast Italy's chief archeological site. The estate is named after Tommaso Obizzi, a banker from Venice who purchased the lands of the area in 1505.
The Bergamasco family runs the company and takes care of 60 acres of vine, which lie all around the winery and are cultivated with the Guyot pruning system and a high density per acre.
Yunmani Bergamasco took over the company in 1997 after having been trained in the art of wine-making by his grandfather Luigi. His recipe to produce high quality wines envisages personal careful vine growing in the vineyards (called Garden of the world by friends), a technical advanced cellar and valid collaborators.
OBIZ produces DOC Friuli Aquileia certified wines like Pinot Grigio, Friulano (formerly known as Tocai Friulano), Traminer aromatico, Cabernet franc, Refosco dal peduncolo rosso, Merlot, a red wine and a sparkling brut wine. OBIZ people enjoy their territory and its history, and emphasized it by naming their wines for famous bishops and for Aquileian women of Roman times. |
