The Georges Aubert winery has its origins in France. Founded in 1875 by the Aubert family, in Saillans, department of Drôme, in southeast France, it produced there the sparkling wine of the type vin mosseaux Clairette de Die, an Appellation Controlée.
In the beginning of the 50s, the proprietor at that time, Georges Aubert, decided to transfer the operations of the winery from France. He and a group of friends guided by the French Marist Brothers, as told by the company's history, were directed to the south of Brazil and ended up establishing themselves in Garibaldi for the reason, among others, that this location had a strong production of good quality white grapes.
The operations at the winery in Garibaldi began in 1951 and were geared mostly to the large-scale production of sparkling wine. At that time, the Charmat method was introduced to the country. Operations for the production of distilled wine (brandy) and liquors were also set up and whisky, gin, and vermouth have also been produce for many years.
Quickly, the winery expanded its production, built a new industrial park and began to increase its market share, holding the leadership position until just recently when new competitors began to focus the production of sparkling wines in the country. |
