Situated in a prime position in South East England, the Carr Taylor estate, founded in 1971 by David and Linda Carr Taylor has thirty-seven acres under vine cultivation. Varieties such as Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, as well as Bacchus, Kerner and Schonburger provide a magical blend of old and new flavours. The vineyard, with its traditional winery and visitor centre, lies in the picturesque heart of the Sussex countryside. The sheltered valley where the Carr Taylor estate is found has been used to grow hops and fruit for centuries. The rich soil of Wealden sandstone and clay gives the wines a highly aromatic flavour and a lasting finish. The unique maritime climate in the region provides a long and cool growing period, which infuses a complex range of delicate flavours in their wines. Our vineyard is located in the village of Westfield, six miles north of the historic town of Hastings, of 1066 fame. The south coast of England has some of the best conditions for wine growing in the UK. The sunnier and drier climate is coupled with an ideal subsoil that stores the heat of the sun and reflects warmth into the vine roots. The sandstone-based soil allows excellent drainage while preserving soil humidity. Indeed, the soil supplies the mineral elements needed to give Carr Taylor wines the award-winning quality and flavour for which they are known. Directions By road: * Turn off the A21 three miles north of Hastings onto the A28 and follow the vineyard signs for 2 miles towards Westfield. * In the centre of Westfield, turn left at the crossroads by the Old Courthouse Pub. * The vineyard is less than a mile on the left towards Sedlescombe village. By rail: Nearest Mainline stations: Battle – 6 miles Hastings – 5 miles
